  • Late to this party.. but i have the Fender Newporter Classic so slightly different version but still all solid wood. Its a fantastic guitar that I've really enjoyed! That said, i took it in for some basic work recently and the shop had a new Yamaha FGX820C that I couldn't help but try. Something about it has just been calling to me since i played a few chords and did some finger picking at the store. Maybe it was that way it was perfectly set up? Maybe it really was the guitar itself.. the way it just resonates and has some extra boom.. It had a more scooped out sound that my ears seemed to really enjoy and it definitely left an impression. It actually seemed to play a little easier than my Newporter too and the Fender is dialed. On paper tue Fender CA Classic should walk all over the Yamaha.. The FGX820c is literally half the price, but im thinking crazy thoughts about trading the Fender for it.

  • Ok…. I finally bought one after playing many. The Redondo Classic Almost fit the bill. I have a lot of incredible guitars. Martin D28, Gibson Hummingbird and a Guild 12 string. What I was searching for was an addition that was bright, punchy, good electronics and a super fast neck. I ended up trying a Fender Redondo Player. Solid top, but the laminate back and sides, strangely gave me the tone and cut that I was looking for. I struggled with 3 things. 1) buying a Fender acoustic. All previous models to the California series were laughable wall hangers at best. 2) Buying an imported guitar. 3) Buying anything that did not have solid wood. After I played this thing, I no longer cared. It was only $400.00, not that this had any influence on my decision. I for one am very impressed

  • I prefer the articulation of the Fender actually. I never thought I’d say this about a Fender acoustic. I’m going to have to get one of those. Like now

  • The new design scalloped bracing in the FGX830 really makes for a great overall sound. I like it better than the Fender.

  • I own a Newporter Special all hog and I like it's playability more than my Taylor 324ce.

  • I am saving my pennies for a Yamaha LS56.
I currently own the LS-TA, and it’s absolutely gorgeous.
You cannot go wrong with Yamaha…for boat motors, dirt bikes, or acoustic/electric guitars!
    Peace, Chris. ????????????????????????????✌️

  • Honestly I wouldn't go with the fender. The quality in the Yamaha just beats the hell out of it. Fender can't touch it

  • Chris, is that the Classic or the Player? The Player is a more even comparison since also solid top with layered back and sides. The Classic is all solid.

  • Looks like I'm in the minority on this.
I just prefer the muddier, deeper tone of the Fender vs the bright, tinny sound of the Yamaha.

  • In Aus. Redondo classic is over 1k and FGX830 around $800. Judging by the brightness, tone and gain that’s a saving of 400 bucks and a better guitar. I’m sold
