  • I agree it's a good instrument, but with a price tag of about 5500 pounds in the UK. I would hesitate. I mean, when it comes to a resale, how many people would go for Yamaha? For this kind of money, I have a choice of many luthiers, who can build great guitars. So on resale value there maybe a big gap. Yamaha factory built should not exceed 2500 to 3500 pounds, that's it, for a top model.

  • I just bought a gc32 and wonder if I should just pay the money for the 42 right now I hear only the backs changed on it. I will never let this guitar go, its unbelievable

  • Folks considering buying serious, expensive musical instruments… If you decide to buy online like most things today, this is a gamble. Musical instruments are bought in person. You don't buy "one of a model line", you buy THIS particular item. Companies like Yamaha are trying to standardize production to achieve consistency, but still you won't get two guitars or pianos that sound the same. I mean, yes, you can expect an $10K guitar to sound better than the $1K, but you are not guaranteed that a 10K will sound like the 10K guitar should.
Buy a ticket to Spain or somewhere where there are lots of guitar shops to visit, and pick an instrument. I would be willing to pay premium to a store with large inventory of high-end guitars that I can visit and try. This way you get an opportunity to test in the same room and really find which sounds better.

  • For an instrument in that price, Yamaha is trying to get in the price range of a market that offers customisation. The player doesn’t help as he should be selling guitars in the market of improvised music.

  • IMO Brian is a player par-excellence in the George Benson style. He plays all guitars well, but this is not his forte.

  • Nothing in this video would make me want to pay the serious $$$ this guitar costs. If you want to hear someone do justice to the Yamaha GC range listen to Thai guitarist Bird Ekachai.

  • I agree with you. A real good classical player with that professional touch will do such a beautiful instrument justice.

  • I can’t believe the amount of purists on here, so tiring. Brian literally said in the beginning that they don’t demo many classical guitars, my guess would be cause he’s not a classical guitarist lmfao. Yea it would’ve sounded more authentic with a classical player but Brian is a fine guitarist. This guy breezes though Rock, Metal, Blues, Jazz, Funk, Country, Flamenco, etc like it’s nothing and still people will complain. He probably plays better than most of you bitching about him. Okay he wasn’t playing Bach renditions or Segovia but he definitely gave you a great taste of how this beautiful instrument sounds. Gosh the guitar community can be so toxic sometimes, it’s really a shame.

  • Jesus christ man, play a classical piece, no one is interested to play bossa nova or mpb.

  • May I make a suggestion. The gentleman who plays in this demo is not a classical guitarist, hence he is not able to showcase the features of this apparently wonderful guitar. He also lacks the classical guitar vocabulary to describe the attributes of the guitar. This is not a good marketing strategy. This guitarist comes from a different playing style and there's nothing wrong with that style but… Every trained classical guitarist will cringe as he hears this. I did. I would not buy this guitar because I still don't know anything about it after this presentation.

  • Would consider one but my brother had the Yamaha GC41C (made in Japan) & my Yamaha GC12C (Made in China) blew it away in tone, sustain & volume. My brother sold his GC41 soon after!

  • Without trying to be rude, you really should get a classical guitar player to demo this instrument. Honestly if I were Yamaha, I probably wouldn't appreciate this review.

  • We could hear you don't play "a whole lot of classical instruments here …" :-). Not to be rude or want to diminish your skills, but you should get a classical guitar player who can produce good tone for a review of a classical guitar. CGs are all about the sound quality, so you really are doing an unfair service to both the guitar and yourself by playing with such a poor tone as you do in this video. It is probably a very fine guitar, but this video really does not demonstrate that.

  • I feel as though you folks need someone who actually plays classical to demo these.

  • Very nice-sounding guitar. However, I noticed that the demonstrator's thumb is visible rather than being kept behind the neck as is proper for classical guitar form. (Form = Function). Either he has the beginnings of arthritis or has forgotten this basic.
