Yamaha LL16D Black A.R.E Technology Guitar Review in Singapore

Based on the LL16, the new LL16D features intricate abalone inlay work around the body, head and sound hole. Being reminiscent of L36 series, LL16D offers both luxurious look and excellent tone.
A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement) is an original wood reforming technology developed by Yamaha. Through precise controll of temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure, the molecular properties of the wood can be manipulated into a more acoustically ideal condition, similar to the molecular characteristics of woods in instruments that have been played for years.A modified non-scalloped bracing design retains the L series’ characteristic bright tone while enhancing low-end tone.

  • I bought this guitar, Jarvis! Thanks for your great demonstrations and evaluations! Out of the case, it immediately sounded like a guitar that has been played for 20-years (the A.R.E. is effective). The guitar is very open, bright yet warm, and very resonant. My black LL16D has a black Tusq nut, and a black Tusq bridge saddle, and black Tusq bridge pins. I’m very happy with, and like that pick-up for playing amplified does not require any batteries!

    You are great, Jarvis!

  • A local store has one in stock. I think it would make a good companion with my Martins. What do you think Jarvis?

  • Holy cow, I'm already checking Sweetwater for this thing! Nice original tune there!

  • Nice review of this sweet guitar. I'm surprised the tuning needs to be visited so often. I'm still comparing debating black versus natural.

  • I returned the new LLTA sunburst and purchased this LL16D black guitar used instead. I'll probably repurchase the LLTA or ll16 sunburst once I find a good deal on them used. I've been playing some really expensive Gibsons and Martins lately and this is still my favorite sounding guitar. Just about every song, strummed or picked, sounds amazing on this guitar.

  • Your facial expression as you play sums up your feelings about the instrument or, at least, about playing itself. I love your reviews. Thanks.

  • This is my upgrade choice but one thing concerns me, I use a pick. Many reviews say this guitar is optimized for finger picking. Of course it still works with a pick but. If I want to use a pick is it a good choice? I am only one year in. I started on a Yamaha FG830, you can see this will be a pretty big upgrade for me. Thanks.

  • Hi, thanks for your most excellent review. I haven't looked at it for a while but you make that guitar sing so much that I wanted that sound. I bought one and use if for recording and also live all the time. I'm not sure if I can add a link but you can hear and see the results-cheers! : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqmFX3LcRiw

  • Hi Jarvis. I have a cosmetic question. The 5 piece neck is evident when looking at the back of the neck here on the internet but I saw a black one in a store same as yours where the neck was a solid black colour and no signs of it being anything but one piece? Do they come like that Jarvis? Thank you.

  • Nobody does a review that includes string height measurements. Its a very good indication of how the guitar is assembled.

  • Trying to decide between this guitar and the Takamine EF341SC…I think I'm leaning towards this Yamaha. I had a Yamaha Pacifica electric when I was younger and it definitely was an amazing sounding and easy playing guitar. And this guitar sounds a little more traditional sounding to my ear than the Takamine. The Takamine sounds a little more modern and trebly compared to this guitar. I prefer vintage sounds both electric and acoustic. This was a fantastic demo. Thanks for sharing.

  • I can't decide what to get (i like fingerpicking style and strumming). What the difference between LS16 and LL16D? In the UK we don't have variety of physical stores that have L series. thank you for the video anyway.
