Yes, It Really Sounds Like a Bass Amp. Anywhere – Origin Bassrig Preamps

In this video, I share my opinion about the Origin Effects Bassrig Preamps. We talk about why a preamp style pedal is helpful for the working bass player, and we listen to the Bassrig ’64 Black Panel and the Bassrig Super Vintage pedals. You can get a good amp sound anywhere, even in the woods!

  • Would you tell us what setup did you use for these video? I mean: where did you hook the headphones and how did you power it all? I’d really appreciate . Thanks ????

  • This video finally made me understand the importance of a solid preamps DI. Great video and I like them both, but see me using the Blue more

  • hey philip can you take the bass rig 64 and the vintage plus a a@b pedal and run them through a powered speaker like a FRFR one and then like have two deferent amps at hand and if so do you know anyone doing this

  • so this pedal is made to go directly into the pa with no amp or can you put it into a bass amp and change the tone of the amp to that particular pedal like make your amp sound like a svt or like the 64 bassman sorry just learning bass

  • Hi May I ask you of I can go from the AMP OUT of one into the input of the other? I would like both in my pedalboard

  • Tried the bass rig 64 sounded good, but I felt the more drive you gave the pedal the bass would lose some its characteristic creamy thump, woody sort of sound. (I have this same bASS) . What surprised me was that 95% of the time I loved the sound the pedal had the blend at 12 or less that that. So I returned it. I found that if you are want to maintain the bass's great sound intact and just amplify it and have some eq options for it this is not the pedal at least imo.

  • Maybe I missed it, but could you please clarify what you used as a power source for the bass rig? Did you bring a battery?

  • Would it be obtuse to have both of these on a pedal board for 2 totally different amp styles? Thinking the Black Panel for mellower, classic boomy 60s bass tones and SV for more mid scooped, overdriven aggressive tones. What are your thoughts?

  • Unrelated to this great video, but where did you get your thumb rest and pick up covers?

  • How did you connect your headphones to the preamp? I have an XLR output to headphone but it does not produce any sound

  • Hi, great video like always. If you have to choose one of these: which one would you prefer? And perhaps why? In the meanwhile you have a lot of experience with both units. Would be a great help. Thx!

  • Y'all still in Holland?
Next time you're around I'd love to come out and see y'all!
Been seriously thinking about getting one of these or something similar to get a decent straight to FOH rig.
Thanks for the good advice in this!

  • Hey Phil, great video. I really enjoyed your take on preamps. I play p bass Americana with the Ampeg B15n plugin. I have some liber performances and I am looking for a pedal to fly with that can capture that vibe. Do you think the Super Vintage can do it or would I be better off with the Bass Rig 64 black Panel or the new Ampeg pedal? I used a black Panel bassman tube amp for a few years, so that isn't a problem.(Origin, make a B15 version that rocks and I will buy the others in addition to it for backups and other tones, please.)

I would prefer a pedalboard with tactile knobs vs a HX stomp all in one.

I also dug the upright video today. Thank you Phil!

  • Hi, I have the same jmj bass. What fits better to a vintage relative clear bass sound. Warm and rund. Thanks!

  • I haven’t played with an amp or cab for 7 years and that includes clubs, theaters, arenas, stadiums, etc.

  • I’ve been in the market for the svt one for a long time but I still use a hx stomp for my run out the door gig box since I do still use two effects at the most. Some gigs a drive and a sans amp or other gigs a drive and a chorus &reverb mix. I would like to have one of these as a back up in case the stomp bricks on me live. Had only happened in my studio but you never know the only thing that bums me out is you can’t change the speakers I’m like you with that I prefer 12s I also own 2 Aguilar 12s just run my through a svt vr. And yes I work out daily to keep up with the weight ????

  • Check out the ultra affordable Zoom B14X. Would love your review of that unit. It’s an excellent entry into a bass travel rig on a budget that offers built in tuner, looper, drummer, headphone out, and customization of patches.

  • I’ve been using the Bassrig SV as my ampless rig with in-ears for several months now. I think it’s a killer setup! Thanks for the video and I hope you guys had a great experience over there on tour.

  • Please do a comparison with these to the Noble. How close can the tube emulation of these pedals match up to a tube DI?

  • Curious to know what you think about these as an at home recording and quiet practice situation running straight into an interface. Been using a UA Dream for that case on guitar for months and really dig it, or if you maybe thing a plugin is better suited for that.

  • Love that you did this in the woods!! Looks like you're enjoying exploring over there! Cheers Phil!

  • I got myself an Ampeg SCR-DI preamp after a concert where the sound guy didn't want to use the DI Out from the house amp, and ever since I've been using an actual amp less and less. It's been really nice just carrying my bass and my pedalboard and that's it — easy and fast to set up, less weight to carry and great sound. Would love to try these Origins out though

  • I have an ampless pedalboard with an aguilar db599 comp, a catalinbread sft plugged into the dsm humboldt bass simplifier’s effects loop. And boy, it’s perfect
