Recently got interested in 8 string guitar and bought an Ibanez tam 10 Tosin Abasi

Funnily enough, I had the right amp before I bought the Ibanez RGA8. The Peavey Invective ????????. After that, I just swapped the pickups for Seymour Duncan Blackout. No other effects. The Amp goes direct in an ENGL 4X12.

Sounds amazing. Everyone has their own approach. I like using the EQ before the boost for the pre-amp (2 in 1 pedals work nicely as well, it’s just a matter of finding one that works well in tandem) and compression I use in different ways. I’ve noticed in active pickups, since they already have a lot of compression going on (along with distortion already having lots of compression naturally, which is why I’ve always loved passive pickups) but the only time I really use it more than it needs is when…well it actually needs it when I’m creating a tone with drop/transpose for stupid low tunings. But a post EQ is exactly what I love to find sculpt it afterwords as well.
Everyone is using plugins. Boring. This is why everyone sounds the same

I just tried my m80m over my bass setup. Gk 800rb solid state head and a markbass 6×10.
Even without effects it sounded crazy. Attack was insane, everything so clear and with plenty of headroom. I was completely blown away. A Zuul and a tempest in front killed it. It was maybe still too less gain (another drive pedal can handle that) but man it sounded so much better then every plugin in I tried so far..
so alive… I just was bored and wanted to play a little bit but now I think i will explore it further!

I had this guitar. Hated that bridge. But it made sense actually. Those micro tuners really helped. Would love if somehow you didn’t have to cut the strings like on edge ibby trems.
This pickup was the best one I’ve had. Was above even fishmans.
